What Kind of Business?

When I told my friends and family that I was going to focus full time on building a business, the first question I always got was

“What kind of business?”
A publishing/media company that provides consumers/businesses with solutions to problems.

“What kind of problems? How will you know it is a problem?”
Good question. I don’t know yet what kind of problems. I will study my market to see what they are having difficulties with. I will put myself in the places they visit i.e. visit forums, read their publications etc.

I will know it is a problem, if a lot of people in my market are asking a question about a specific thing (yes, this is a simplistic answer.)

“What is your market?”
Don’t know yet. I have a couple of ideas. I’ll research them a little and run a few tests to see if it will be profitable. (actually I will be working within a specific niche within a big market)

“Profitable?”
Yes, profitable. I am building a business. In return for the profits, I will provide excellent value to my customers.

“Where will you find customers?”
I will start on the internet first. People are always looking for information. There are tools that will tell me what they are looking for. There are forums where they hang out. There are other websites they visit.

I’ll place ads on Google, I will place ads on other web sites. There are many places I can find customers.

And on and on and on, the questions would go.

The business model as it is layed out currently is a direct marketing model…Implemented on the internet…With the specific goal of building a house list…With whom I/my business will build a relationship with…To whom I will provide value…Who in turn will pay me money in the form of buying my products.

See, simple isn’t it? :)

Business models are fluid like anything else. Results will dictate which way the business will go.

You can see exactly what I am doing on a day to day basis. The only thing I will not reveal is the specific market/niche that I will be testing/working on.

All projects/niche testing will have code names.

I will start testing Niche Alaska today.

Stay tuned folks. It will be a wonderful journey.

Keeping Myself Healthy

Along with building a self sustainable business, I am also on a journey of self improvement - in all aspects of my life.

My physical health and my mental health.

I weigh in at 125 or so lbs now and for my height (5′1″) the idealweight according to medical guidelines is 105lbs.

So, my mission is to lose that extra 20 lbs.

I plan on accomplishing this through a healthy diet and exercise. Eat more fruits and vegetables. Cut down on the carbs. Do yoga everyday and do some form of cardio everyday.

Mental health? Well that one is harder isn’t it? The first thing I am going to do is create a more balanced life. I will make sure that I don’t spend all my time working. I will go out and meet people and have fun.

And read an inspirational book as often as I can…I know, I know, that’s not being very quantitative is it? I am going to leave it at this for now.

Once again, stay tuned for the progress. In fact bookmark this blog so you can check back every day. Or subscribe to the feed.

The Beginning

Today is the first day of my new journey.

I did it - cut the chord from Corporate America. I resigned from my corporate job.

I will be working towards Ultimate Freedom - the ability to do what I want when I want.

Many of us dream about this kind of freedom. We hope for it. We pray for it.

I decided to tackle it head on.

I have enough money in the bank to sustain me for a year with no income. And a great group of family, friends and mentors. Every single one of them has been supportive - how cool is that!

It does mean that I have to live within a budget (that’s not such a bad thing actually).

Day 1 of that year starts today - August 1, 2007.

How do I plan on attaining Ultimate Freedom? By creating a self-sustainable business.

After years of reading and analysis/paralysis, I realized that what I needed was action, focus and quick decision making.

So that’s what I am doing.

On this blog, I will record my progress and my journey.

And the details of what I am doing.
